  2. Sock Massacre! lol I’ve not knit socks yet and I haven’t ever really blocked anything I’ve knit before but I feel your horror there. And a lifeline! Never knew about this (being a baby knitter of a little over a year or so) this would have saved me so much pain of ripping back and dropping stitches. Thanks so much for sharing!

    • Knitting socks as I am sure you have read is a highly addictive activity. This is where I feel I should tell you to step away from the DPN’S, but hell no! Don’t shy away for knitting socks, if you can knit and purl, you go for it! Seriously, there are tons of great videos, books and of course Craftsy online workshops to get you started. For me, it was my knit and natter group that got me started with my sock addiction. Happy Knitting, Jane

  6. I keep thinking that I need to put some kind of tape measure in my knit bag but forget! I’m on the lookout for something cute! Currently, I’m using a wrapper from some skein of yarn that had one printed on it. It’s getting a bit tattered now…

  8. Looks lovely! I’m sure Angela will be chuffed, and there’s nothing better than a bit of TV crochet, so everyone’s a winner! Sorry to hear you’ve had flu – hope you’re feeling better x

  13. hi – what a lovely post, and what a lovely man your dad was. That’s exactly the sort of thing mine would do with his grandchildren. That really touched a chord; you are so right, make the most of them while you can

  20. I love these! There are so many things you could do with them. I’m thinking of making a few stuffed with a bit of pot pourri and hanging them in the wardrobe (or around the house in general). Great little stash buster project!

  21. Thank you ever so much for this excellent review and beautiful photos that capture the wonderful atmosphere on the day. So glad you had such a great day and are pleased with all your new yarn. It was a lot of hard work organising our first ever wool show event, but hearing all the feedback on the day, plus social media comments, emails and reviews has made it all worthwhile. We have been completely overwhelmed by the support we received and 550 people attending was way beyond our expectations!

  22. I too have to feel, touch, stroke and sniff the yarn! I always want to bury my face in it! And colours are never perfectly true on a computer screen or printed. I went to visit my local yarn shop (in the next village) at the weekend to find that they are closing down on Friday having only been open a few months :(. This seems to happen a lot near me. I will have to look further afield to the nearest cities to get involved I think. 🙂

  24. Both of your projects are lovely. I hate having my photo taken too. I recently had to ask my husband to take some pics of me modelling a crocheted cowl I’m going to put on my blog and I was either blinking, smirking or looking miserable in most of them!

    • Thank you Zoe 🙂 Luckily my daughter is starting to get big enough to model some of my designs. But otherwise I am battling not to pull a ‘funny face’.

  25. Well done to your daughter, she looks lovely in all these shots. She must be a natural.
I know how hard it is for kids when they’re modelling, you sometimes only have a small window of opportunity before they get really bored! My boys modelled some of the knits in my second book when they were 2 and 6 (now 9 and 12) and I had to ply them with snacks and promises of treats after we’d done!

  26. Foxy Lady is so sweet! I love anything fox related which is quite apt as both my borough council and county council – Leicestershire – use a fox in their logos (to do with strong traditions of fox hunting unfortunately!) My husband even designed the county council ‘dog on a log’ logo as it’s known!

      • If you look up the Leicestershire County Council website you’ll see it! My other claim to fame is he also designed the Leicester Tigers Rugby team logo when he worked for a design agency many moons ago. Thank you for loving my pattern, it’s really very simple. I’m going to go away and blush now! X

  27. … holy crap I need to sort out my knitting area. Those little bags to hold the DPNS would be really useful. I don’t really have anything strange as such in my knitting draw except about 4 stitch holders that my mam gave me, from an old project she was making. The essay though, that happened to me the other night as I was weaving in ends. I HAD the tapestry needle and then all of a sudden I hadn’t. I found it in the morning though.

  28. King Cole Merino Blend DK (and 4ply, Aran and Chunky) for all the same reasons you mentioned – great stitch definition, colour work, great colour range and super wash! Also it’s a reasonable price for 100% wool – win, win all round!

  30. It’s the same here – loads of Christmas stuff and an ever growing number of yarn boxes – I had another delivered today and it’s still sitting in the hall! Love ‘up to my yarnpits’ , wish I’d thought of that. I’m too busy to blog at the moment but I can’t trust my husband to write in my stead just yet. Xx

    • Doug’s posts have been very popular, he keeps mentioning starting his own blog. Before we know it there will be a support group for husbands of knitters 😉 I hope you are finding time for non-knitting related fun! Xx

    • Thank you I am grinning from your lovely comment. I am looking forward to seeing how people run with this project. My ten yr old daughter loves hers!

  35. Dear Jane, I love your designs and have been trying to download your heart pattern cushions but so far my computer says NO! Can you let me know where I can buy a copy of this pattern from. kind regards diane wallis

    • Hi Diane, I am so sorry you have been having trouble downloading ‘Where the heart is’. The pattern is now live in my Ravelry store and will be in my shop (here) a little bit later today. I have emailed you a little discount code as a thank you for your patience.

  40. Hi Jane
I really enjoyed making your maid minion on raverly recently, would you give me permission to also knit them to raise funds for our local Wiltshire air ambulance please?

    Julie

    • Yes you certainly can! Wiltshire Air Ambulance took my Dad to Swindon hospital two years ago. I will be forever grateful to the efforts they went to for him. Thank you Julie x

  45. Hi. These look brilliant and as a newbie knitter would be great to practice some skills and make something gorgeous. Is there a pattern available for these?

  46. Hi. I have the yarn kit, but seem to have misplaced the pattern booklet for the tea cosy. Is this available online anywhere? Really want to get this knit this month if possible.

    Thanks, Hayley

  47. I went to knitting site to get free copy of wedding mice, but it isn’t there.
Can you tell me where I can get it please?
    regards,
    Sheila

    • I am glad you liked it 🙂 The biggest challenge in making things for our husbands is hiding the work in progress! I hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day and are thoroughly spoilt x

  48. Love the beaded fingerless mitts!
My husband just found your blog and pointed out that you are based in Southend. Is the group still meeting in Waitrose? If so, are there any available places and when do you meet, please?

  49. Wow, well done, these are gorgeous I have only ever knitted 1 adult sock in my whole life – apart from baby socks, socks have never really appeared in my design or knitting repertoire but these really tempt me! Good luck with all your self publishing endeavours xx

    • Thank you Zoe, I am amazed you have not been caught by the sock knitting addiction. But I’m not sure where you would find the time with all you other fab designs. Xx

  50. lovely pattern . I signed up to the newsletter but the first link in the welcome pack does not work, the second link only shows how to bead, not the sock pattern.
    Please help,
    Jane

  51. Thank you for your reply. It’s a shame that I missed it by a day and that the site didn’t tell me the freebie had changed.

  52. Please what are you saying after insert the hook? sounds like fifty pal, but it can’t be! very nice video. I’m familiar with this technique, but this is the most succinct video I’ve seen.

  53. I love this. I really need to get into beading. It’s something I’ve not ventured into yet. I’m a complete novice though. I wouldn’t even know where to go bead shopping! I must investigate. Thanks for a great tutorial!

  54. Hello Jane I have the stag cushion pattern but I can’t find an enlarge copy of the chart. It is not on Lets Knit website. Can you help.

  55. Hi
I’m just knitting your Monster tissue box cover- can you tell me which tissues this fits as I havent found any that size?
    Many thanks
    Sue

  56. Hello. I recently bought wool and needles and got an instruction booklet for twisted socks but unfortunately as I live in the Netherlands the instructions are in Dutch.
I would really like to receive an English version.

  57. I was curious if you ever thought of changing the page layout of your blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?
